About The Project
The Memory Project II was a workshop presentation and site specific performance installation created by Sector N Collective that expanded on ideas first developed in the original Memory Project. Staged in a disused coachhouse on Barton Street East, a once bustling retail strip in old Hamilton, the project combined a central, multi-disciplinary installation with a walking tour of the immediate neighbourhood. On the tour, groups of five participants listened to a binaural soundscape using headphones & individual media players, and viewed video sequences projected using mobile pico projectors into old store interiors and onto building exteriors. The portable projectors allowed us to experiment with placing characters into locations, such as the shopkeeper below who was “replaced” into his old storefront.
Produced & created by Sector N Collective:
John Henry Gerena: movement & choreography
Edgardo Moreno: music & sound design
Peter Riddihough: videography and projection design
Generously funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
Costume Design: Ariel Rogers
Still Photographs: Peter Riddihough
The following montage features excerpts from scenes that were projected during the walking tour as well as the multi-layered streetscapes that were projected on the exterior of the couch house. The flow of this montage reflects the underlying theme of the project.
